Alamance County

Alamance County is one of the 10 North Carolina counties participating in Thriving Hearts. From now through 2030, Thriving Hearts will be working with the Alamance County Health Department to improve maternal health outcomes in the county. Our collaboration builds on current maternity practices and ongoing efforts to improve the quality of care for community members during the pregnancy and postpartum period. Alamance County is considered a medium size county based on their number of births each year. Alamance County will have 2 Perinatal Community Health Workers (PCHWs) connecting patients and birthing persons to community resources.

A Thriving Hearts co-Champion in Alamance, Shannon is a NC native who wants to play an active role in whole community flourishing. She has designed, implemented, evaluated, and improved public health in the areas of chronic disease prevention, newcomer health, public health preparedness and response, and as registered an environmental health specialist. She is a graduate of UNC’s School of Public Health and was a Fellow in Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs Program in Community Health and Economic Development.
